Native American Cave Paintings

This week's art lesson is such a great one if you have an elementary aged child. Social studies can overlap art so very much, and yet so many of our kids are just given textbooks and worksheets. Told to memorize and then regurgitate the info. But they aren't learning to the full extent that they could. Art provides so much more! It kills me inside each time I read about arts funding getting cut year after year. This lesson was taught in my son's fourth/fifth grade combo class and I just love it. You can modify it to your region and the Native American tribes indigenous to your area. Here in Southern California we focused on the Chumash for this project, take a look, and let me know if you ever try it out with your child or your class! All you need are a few supplies too!
