Wednesday Wears : 4

Today’s styling post is going to be all about accessorizing, jewelry accessorizing to be more specific. I used to underestimate the value of accessories, throw on my wedding ring, a pair of small studs, and maybe a watch. Little did I know how much accessories influence how I feel. I can be wearing a simple t shirt and a pair of jeans, but if I throw on a few long chains, some dangly earrings and a chunky bracelet watch, I’ve all of a sudden put together an outfit instead of just got dressed.

I’m not sure I’ve shared this on the blog before, but my wedding ring got a makeover a year or two ago. I hadn’t been wearing it much. To my sister and mother’s dismay and disbelief, I’ve discovered over the years that I’m not such a diamond girl. I know, the horror! For awhile I’ve gravitated toward gemstones such as emeralds, sapphires, citrines. Even though my mom didn’t understand how I couldn’t love a diamond, she still wanted me to be happy wearing my engagement ring. So she suggested we replace the diamond for a sapphire. Perfect solution. I wear my ring now every single day and love love love it. Some might think the sentimentality of changing an engagement ring is somehow lessened, but not for me. I never understand how people can go decades and decades, their style and taste changing throughout their life, and not think it’s ok to alter their ring a little. It’s the commitment that matters, not the ring you wear to symbolize it.

There’s another thing that I do that a lot of people might think is wrong. I mix my golds. All. The. Time. Take the top photo for instance. We’ve got platinum, silver, yellow gold, and brass. Don’t be confined to wearing all white gold, or all yellow gold. Mix and match a little. It’s liberating, and also you will end up wearing your pieces so much more because you now have the freedom to wear them all the time.

Excuse my slouchy posture, I'm still not so comfortable with these Wednesday Wears posts of me!

I was asked to review a lovely jewelry site, Anjolee, that I am excited to share with all of you. I mentioned my affinity for birthstones, gemstones, all stones of color! Well, I received this gorgeous citrine ring by them, and I can’t tell you how great it looks with my sapphire. Like match made in heaven. Don’t you think I need the matching birthstone bracelet too? ;) It was really easy to navigate and customize. Total plus, you don’t have to break the bank for great jewelry. You can switch out any type of gold for silver, and any diamond for CZ or a gemstone, and they’re really great to work with as far as customer service. I can also wear the band all by itself, or add some stackable rings to change it up. Love LOVE LOVE I tell you.

Wednesday Wears : 3

I’m a big fan of denim on denim. But I have a ground rule for it when I wear it. The washes cannot be the same. I’ll gladly pair a light wash shirt with a pair of jeans in a dark wash, or vice versa. Or even medium wash with light or dark, but I never pair two similar washes together. I don’t want to look like a mechanic, and I want the pieces to stand out as different.

I wore this on a Sunday morning as we were heading out to see a movie and grab lunch with the kids.

Wednesday Wears : 2

We have an understanding in our house between Greta and myself. We set this rule up early on because I foresaw the battles that might ensue in years to come. She dresses herself for everything except a few key occasions each year. When things like family photos, weddings, and special religious events happen, she knows we don’t argue. But then I leave her alone to dress herself for school, and daily/weekly activities. It’s worked out pretty well thus far, and sometimes as she walks down the stairs I can’t help but smile.
